The last post “Kerberos SPN Generation Setup Tool Overview” gave a brief review of SPNs and the overall process for using the tool. This is a continuation of the series of blog posts “Kerberos SPN Generation Setup Tool” that describe how to use the Kerberos SPN Generation Setup Tool Beta for Kerberos Constrained Delegation with Microsoft BI tools. This post covers “online Documentation” and the “Instructions tab”. You can download the Kerberos SPN Generation Setup Tool Beta at FUTURESULTS, LLC.
Documentation / Instructions
There are two basic places to find “Help” or additional documentation for the Kerberos SPN Generation Setup Tool.
- Spreadsheet Tool Instructions Tab
- FUTURESULTS, LLC Blog
The instructions tab has the default information that you need to know in order to use the tool. For additional help or more recent information, please see the FUTURESULTS, LLC Blog information in the next section. In general you can also find the tool Terms and Conditions and tab by tab usage information.

Several Other Notes
Prior to using any advanced functionality, you must enable Macros.
To do this, select the “Options” button next to the Security Warning.
Then make sure to select “Enable this content” and select “OK”.
This version of the tool is restricted to using a single domain (the one that you are currently connected to). In other words, when it is time to “Generate SPNs”, you must be connected to the domain with the reporting infrastructure so that the tool can interrogate the domain controller for existing SPNs. You can enter all of the input information without being connected to the domain controller. There is a utility on the common tab that can help you fill in some of the information if you are connected to the domain controller. This is optional (but faster).
